Baseline Emissions Footprint 2022
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Our 2022 baseline year emissions inventory represents Scope 1, Scope 2 and the subset of Scope 3 categories defined by PPN 06/21. Our footprint represents GHG emissions resulting from our operations and employees as relevant to each category of emissions under and operational control approach.
In line with PPN 06/21 guidance, Scope 3 included sources consisting of business travel, employee commuting, upstream and downstream transportation and distribution, and waste from operations.

As the company has only recently stared addressing Carbon Reduction, the baseline year and current year emissions are the same and include the same calculations.

Emission Reduction Targets
In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction projects to reduce our emissions. As a rapidly growing company within the healthcare industry, we haven’t been able to set clear targets for the next year. However we are hoping next year to assess what we have managed to achieve in 12 months, and the potentially seek further advice on how to reduce our footprint further.
Carbon Reduction Projects
The Real Birth Company Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero GHG emissions by 200 in line with current NHS targets and below is the current plan to achieve this. Some projects are already underway / completed. We will publish our yearly carbon emissions and track this regularly to ensure accountability.
1. As a digital programme, our digital carbon footprint still needs assessing. We use the ANS for our hosting. ANS are the first 100% carbon neutral hosting company in the UK, they comply to PAS2060 Carbon Neutral Standards, contribute to hydroelectric renewable energy schemes and are an Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme compliant. This aids in reducing our Scope 2 output.
2. Internally we use a waste and refuse company for our waste and recycling, Pedicargo whom collect all waste for recycling on bikes resulting in zero emissions and locally save 1000s of tonnes of waste from going to landfill every year. This supports our reduction in Scope 3.
3. Our employees work some of their hours from home to reduce their commuting footprint. Additionally on office days, employees either car share, “Walk to Work” where local employees meet along the way and walk together or take public transport.
4. We have adapted our training model so some of the training can be completed virtually which reduces travel emissions. Additionally, we are implementing into trusts / hospitals within a similar geographical location, this ensures any travel required for face-to-face training, implementation, site visits or community engagement can be done during the same time frame, reducing travel, and producing the least amount of carbon footprint. Public transport is used whenever possible.
5. All our staff are qualified as Carbon Literacy Certified which represents their robust understanding of the climate context in day-to-day life and are committed to adjusting their behaviours in work and at home to reduce the carbon footprint, as well as influencing their social and professional circles.
6. The use of renewable energy providers throughout our offices and a commitment to only use offices which use a green energy tariff and fully recycle all the buildings waste materials.
7. Use energy efficient lighting in all offices.
8. Reducing travel as much as possible and using public transport, however where this may not be viable, obtaining an electric company car when possible.
9. Reduction in travel through streamlining training and enhancing our virtual training and refresher offer which eliminates travel in some cases all together.
10. Additional employees working remotely based around the country to reduce the milage and travel required as part of our operations.
11. All contractors that travel as part of their work with us must commit to using public transport where possible.
12. We are looking to have local staff employed native to the country we are working in, including senior management to ensure flying between countries is no longer required.
13. Moving office space to a more economically efficient building or look to shared spaces to reduce the emissions.
Declaration and Sign Off
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.
Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard1 and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard2.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
